IsraelSeen Exclusive – Another Shabbat Birthday
On a recent Shabbat morning, United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Isaac Katz was davening in his local synagogue in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem when his radio alerted him to a woman in labor nearby. Whipping off his tallit, Isaac dashed over to his ambucycle and raced to the address. The United Hatzalah dispatcher updated him to prepare for a definite emergency birth as Isaac arrived at the apartment. Another volunteer EMT arrived as well and the duo ran into the building, making it to the home within 90 seconds from the time they received the call.
The highly frantic woman was in the bathroom, shrieking and crying. Knocking, the two medics cautiously opened the bathroom door and found the woman completely hysterical. She screamed that she could feel the baby coming out, but in her panic, she refused to leave the bathroom. Isaac kept his calm, reassuring the frightened woman and gently coaxing her out of the bathroom. As they guided her to the bed, the woman shrieked that the baby was coming at that very minute. Without a moment to lose, Isaac calmly and swiftly positioned the woman safely on the bed and immediately delivered the baby.
The two volunteers dried and warmed the baby, performed an APGAR assessment, cut the umbilical cord and then gave the baby to the stunned, overwhelmed mother. All the while, Isaac kept up a soothing flow of conversation, reassuring the new mom that everything was okay and that she now had a beautiful new daughter. Slowly, the woman began to relax, sinking into the pillows and cuddling her baby in love, relief, and happiness. By the time an ambulance arrived about 10 minutes later, the mother and baby were fine and ready for transport.
Had Isaac arrived just a couple of minutes later, this baby would have been in very real danger. Your ambucycle enabled Isaac to arrive in time to help deliver the baby and calm the mother.
