This is an email I received from a close friend of mine,Reena Keren and I asked if we could put it up before Yom Kippur, the “Day of Atonement”. She is a therapist and was previously interviewed on israelseen at: https://israelseen.com/2010/10/04/interview-reena-keren-dancer-therapist-eating-disorders-addictions/ and https://israelseen.com/2010/12/06/reena-keren-creating-well-being-by-living-on-purpose/
On this Erev Yom Kippur ‘Words to Live By’ * are offered most eloquently by Steve Jobs, the Apple founder and former CEO, who lost his 7 year battle with cancer yesterday at age 56.
Facing the prospect of his own death, Steve began to offer lessons that cannot be found in his Apple computers. Like Debbie Friedman who taught us through the poignancy of her songs, Steve understood that death has the potential to teach us about LIFE.
Whether we spend Yom Kippur at the beach or in a synagogue, it is a day that challenges each of us to contemplate the way we live our lives.
Steve is quoted as saying:
“ If you live every day as though
this were your last, some day
you will be right! ”
My own journey, ‘Life Dance’, has taught me that if we ask ourselves each day ‘do I want to be doing what I have planned for today’, then we will be living the life that we are each meant to live.
It is my deep belief that in discovering what special and unique things we each have to offer the world and how we are each meant to live our lives, we will then be able to find the most precious gifts in the world – inner peace , tranquility & the ability to LOVE.
For sure, finding the answers to these questions does not come at the same pace that our Apple Computers offer us solutions to our other, more mundane queries!
It is ironic that Steve Jobs, whose technological genius so dramatically changed our daily lives, now- in his death- offers us soul wisdom that can transform our lives on such a different level. If we learn the lessons that he taught we can transform our lives on the level of spirit and inner quiet.
Indeed, he taught, “your life is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life”!
May we each choose our days well and live them as richly as we would in understanding that this is the only day we have.
