Lee Diamond – Hoomen Tashen for Sale

It’s still a week and a half till Purim.

But these “ear shaped” triangular delicacies have been on sale since Hanukah—Filled with Moon or Jam or anything sweet.

I walked this week through the crafts’ Shuk in Nachalat Benyamin and countless  stores were decked with costumes and hats and bangles of every sort. My own downtown in Kfar Saba is fully ready for the onslaught of Purim.

There is the taste of Simchat Purim in the air.

School events are planned. Synagogues are ready for the Chag and the Megillah readers are already practicing  the special trope!

People will be at work on the day mostly but often in costume or with a cute hat. Adults will be at Purim parties and often drinking a bit more than usual.

Tel Aviv will be the “start up” and Jerusalem will only celebrate on the next day. We will also see an “Ad DeLo Yada”  Purim parade near Tel Aviv.

And everyone  will declare Purim Sameach  for a few days before and after.

And we all

Will be aware

That we were (and are) in danger

Of extinction

But we survived ( and will)

This is our secret . Keep it!

Purim Sameach

So pleased to have Rav. Diamond share his thoughts at Israel Seen. Rabbi Lee Diamond, is based in Israel and began his unique rabbinate as an Israel Educator for the Diaspora. Rabbi Diamond has served as director of the Alexander Muss High School in Israel, and Associate Director of the Israel office of the UJR and NFTY Israel programs. He has dedicated his life to sharing the Israel he loves and creating an educational experiences for everyone visiting Israel. Rabbi Diamond’s philosophy: Israel is the stage on which I want to act out the drama of the Jewish people, its creative survival, and to affect people’s lives. When we see each other our discussion always seems to find its way to the ever changing political situation in Israel. In the end of course we come around to what is dear to the hearts of both of us: the importance of emphasizing Jewish values and ethics in our society.
