Jack Cohen – Biden is Right, But…

Pres. Biden made a blindingly obvious statement on the Mideast this week. He said, “Let’s get something straight, until the region says unequivocally they acknowledge the right of Israel to exist as an independent Jewish State, there will be no peace.”  Yes, but most of the region don’t acknowledge this right and the Palestinians never will. For them to do so would be diametrically opposed to their basic ideology, which is that Israel is “occupied Palestine.” Hamas is an Islamist terrorist organization that is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the murder of all Jews. Fatah has the same ideology, but they are nationalist and not Islamist. Pres. Abbas of the PA is known to be extremely corrupt and has not allowed an election since 2006.

So that raises another point, Biden and everyone else says that the only solution is a “two-state solution” and  the Palestinian state should be democratic.  Are you kidding, show me where there is a democratic State in the whole Arab world, from Morocco to Yemen, even those that have made peace with Israel, the Gulf Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, are not democratic and Lebanon, and certainly Syria and Libya are not.  And do you expect anti-democratic (and basically anti-American) forces like Hamas and Fatah (part of the PLO) to actually magically transform into a democratic state as if a mirror image of Israel.

Many people find it hard to believe or accept, but when the Palestinians say “the occupation,” that is a euphemism for Israel, that they can’t bring themselves to pronounce.  They don’t mean simply the occupation of Gaza or of the West Bank, neither of which is actually occupied by Israel, they mean the whole thing.  It is their declared ideology to destroy Israel to form a Palestinian State in the “whole of Palestine.” And what would that State be like, we have the evidence before us, it would be a source of continuous violence and civil war between Hamas, Fatah and numerous other terrorist organizations, such as Al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamic State (all of which have representatives in Gaza and the West Bank).  It seems none of the liberal, leftists have thought it through.  Does every minority group deserve to have a State of their own, apparently not (the Welsh, Scots, Kurds, Indigenous Americans (indians), the Papuans (part of Indonesia) and many, many more apparently don’t).   But, the Palestinians must have one, even if it means destroying an established sovereign democracy.  Btw, Israel has offered the PA on three occasions the beginning of a State (Rabin, Olmert, Barak), but they turned it down each time.

Pres. Biden and the progressive left of his party have not thought through the consequences of their beliefs.  It so happens we have a model of what can be accomplished if one does think through this situation and accept that the “two-state solution” is a fantasy of western liberals.  And that example is Pres. Trump, who decided to stop supporting the terrorist Hamas and the fascist Fatah and instead give support, politically, diplomatically and economically to the US ally Israel,  And also to foster relations between moderate Sunni countries and Israel, which led to the Abraham Accords, that have survived the recent Gaza war because the Gulf States and the others (Morocco, Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia) know that the Palestinians are the spoilers, they prevent peace, they only use violence, they are enemies of the Sunni States, and they take their funds, arms and guidance from Iran.  It also is blindingly obvious, but people don’t want to see it.

Now US Secty of State Anthony Blinken is visiting the region and today he met with PM Netanyahu.  In their press conference, Blinken reiterated Biden’s support for Israel’s right of self-defense against Hamas missiles. Biden has stated that now is not the time for a peace initiative, at least he is realistic in that respect. Blinken then visited Pres Abbas of the PA in  Ramallah and announced economic and political support for the Palestinians.  But, Abbas is not really able to help when it comes to Gaza, because he has no say there, it is controlled by Hamas.  In fact, Israeli politicians are partly responsible for the rise of Hamas in Gaza, it was PM Rabin (who is often idealized because he was assassinated) who made a huge mistake when he invited Arafat back from Tunisia and then allowed Hamas to grow as a counter to the PLO.  Blinken again mentioned the “two-state solution” and that the Palestine State should be a democracy.  This “peace process” has been going on for 50 years and has got nowhere, because these liberal politicians do not want to face the reality.  A Palestine State will not come into existence because they will never recognize Israeli sovereignty, however much money you throw at them, and it could never be a democracy, as shown by the vicious enmity between Hamas and Fatah.
