American Novelist Peter G. Pollak Fights BDS on Two Fronts
American novelist Peter G. Pollak is fighting the cultural war against the BSD movement and the American Left in both his fiction and political blog (PollaksPolitics.com). A retired educator, journalist and entreprenuer, Pollak has self-published five novels, the most recent being House Divided, the story of the child of a retired CIA agent who joins the chapter of Students for Palestinian Justice at NYU.
“Several years ago I began to be disturbed at the ease with which pro-BDS student groups were dominating the discussion of the conflict over Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem,” Pollak states. “In House Divided, the full implication of the BDS position comes to light as naïve college students are recruited to bomb Jewish institutions.”
In addition to writing fiction, Pollak maintains a blog in which he discusses the cultural and political issues of the day. His most recent piece, “Entertainment Industry Goes Politically Correct with Designated Survivor,” decries the shift away from focusing on terrorists as America’s enemies to parroting the Left’s favorite whipping boy: rich, white men. A prime example of this shift is the new Kiefer Sutherland TV show, Designated Survivor, in which Sutherland plays the mirror opposite of his Jack Bauer character in 24.
In an earlier piece “Anti-Religious Sentiment is Winning in the U.S.,” Pollak claims, “what are no longer tolerated are Christian and Jewish based beliefs and values that interfere with government authority over all aspects of life––from the womb to the grave.” While Christianity has come under subtle attack, being a Muslim in the U.S. makes one an automatic victim and hero, Pollak argues.
He also criticized novelists Ayelet Waldman, Dave Eggers and Michael Chabon for participating in Breaking the Silence’s tour of the West Bank. “When you write your essays . . . , I hope you don’t fall for the scapegoating narrative––the one that blames someone else for the situation the Arab Palestinians have created for themselves.”
Pollak is a graduate of Oberlin College (BA) and the University of Albany (MA, Ph.D.). He edited two alternative newspapers, taught at Empire State College, the University at Albany, and elsewhere, and started an electornic news service in 1985.
Pollak has recently completed his sixth thriller and is completing an epic fantasy. “It’s hard to write fiction with a political message,” Pollak states, “but I hope readers find House Divided is both a good story and helps them understand the danger represented by the BDS movement.”
