In an address to the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid slammed the left-wing Haaretz newspaper, saying it served the interests of the global anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.
“The ongoing attacks by Breaking the Silence and Haaretz newspaper on Zionism and the morality of the IDF has turned them into tools of the BDS movement,” Lapid said.
Lapid also castigated critics of the High Court of Justice.
“The poisonous attacks [on the court], which have reached new heights in recent days, have crossed all lines of legitimate criticism,” Lapid said. “The ministers leading the attacks have simply tired of obeying the law and have decided to do everything necessary to weaken the court.”
In an apparent reference to Habayit Hayehudi MK Bezalel Smotrich, who on Tuesday touted segregation between Jewish and Arab women in Israeli maternity wards, Lapid said, “Knesset members are making disgraceful, racist statements which were common in Germany in the 1930s. It’s dangerous.”
