Remembering Liz: A Celebration of Love, Spirituality, and Wisdom
In June, we commemorate the extraordinary life of Elisheva (Liz), my beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. This tribute is a celebration of her immense love, profound spirituality, and the wisdom she shared during her 48 years of marriage. Though her physical presence may be missed, her impact continues to resonate within the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her. Join us as we reflect on the beautiful moments, spiritual adventures, and everlasting lessons Liz imparted.
Our love story began at Ananda Ashram in Monroe, N.Y., where our paths converged. Amidst the serenity of the ashram, our connection blossomed, leading us on a journey of deep companionship. The intensity of our love was evident from the start, as I realized that Liz was the one who would forever change my life. Despite facing challenges and doubts, our commitment to each other only grew stronger with time.
Together, we embarked on a spiritual quest, traversing the United States in search of enlightened teachers who could illuminate our path. We sought out those who could inspire and share the tools necessary to awaken our inner selves. Our travels led us to Woodstock, where we became active members of the Woodstock Jewish Congregation. Our involvement in the congregation reflected our deep-rooted commitment to our spiritual community.
Liz had a deep love for gardening and nurturing the land we lived on in Saugerties, N.Y. Her green thumb, coupled with my support, led us to plant 100 Birch Trees as a legacy for future generations. This act of care and dedication symbolized our profound connection to nature and our desire to leave a lasting imprint on the world around us.
While Liz may have been naturally reserved and introspective, she possessed an incredible depth of knowledge and insight. When engaged in conversations about important subjects, Liz effortlessly assumed the roles of teacher, advisor, and mentor. Friends and teachers sought her wisdom and recognized the enlightened state of her being. Her impact on others’ lives was profound, and her ability to inspire and uplift those around her was unparalleled.
The month of June marks Liz’s birthday on the second and the anniversary of three years since her passing on the 27th, we choose to celebrate her life rather than mourn her absence. Liz’s impact on the spiritual community, her dedication to her family, and her commitment to living consciously deserve to be honored. She instilled a deep understanding of the Torah and shared her spiritual insights with anyone fortunate enough to encounter her. The memories of Liz’s warm presence during Shabbat meals and gatherings continue to inspire and influence those who were touched by her grace.
Our many years of living in Israel only consolidated our shared love of the country and our people. We became a part of this incredible blessing of living in our homeland with warts and all. Embarking on our life’s journey to BE the best we could BE at every moment. Raising three amazing children that have since produced grandchildren that were fortunate to receive her many hugs and endless love.
Though Liz is physically absent, her spirit lives on. As I reflect on our daily encounters with shared memories, cherishing the love we shared and the adventures we embarked upon together. While the pain of her absence is still felt deeply, I strive to open my heart and soul fully, embracing the profound impact Liz had on my life and the lives of others.
