Reflecting on Life’s Blessings: a Birthday Tribute to Love, Family, and Israel

Today is my birthday, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on the things that matter most to me. I am so grateful for the love of my family, the blessings of living in Israel, my incredible friends, and the creation of my website, israelseen.com.

Three years ago, I lost my beloved wife Liz (Elisheva) and the pain of her passing is still with me. However, I also have wonderful memories of her that I cherish.

Liz was my partner in every sense of the word. We shared a deep love and connection. She was my best friend. The pain of her absence is still present, and I miss her every day. However, I also feel fortunate to have had her in my life. The memories we shared, the laughter we enjoyed, and the moments we cherished together will always be with me.

I am reminded of the things that bring me the greatest joy in life. One of those things is the love of my family, my three children, including my beautiful grandchildren.

My three children, now adults, have always been there for me and Liz. They have been our greatest blessings. Their independence and willingness to take risks have made them unique and beautiful human beings. Their compassion for others and their life struggle to be themselves is truly an amazing achievement in one’s life.

I must also thank my Son-in-law Ido for his constant support and love. We have shared wonderful times together and have always included me in family outings and family vacations. We have sat together at Jewish meditation retreats in the north of the country.

My grandchildren have brought so much joy and happiness into my life. Watching them grow and learn has been a true blessing, and their love has given me strength during difficult times. Their laughter and playfulness have brought a sense of lightness and joy to my life that I treasure deeply. Their hugs have warmed my heart and have given me the energy to continue in the difficult times of my life.

Living in Israel is also an incredible blessing. I feel so connected to the land, the culture, and the people. From the ancient sites in Jerusalem, the beautiful beaches in Tel Aviv, the incredible northern landscape, and the south with its vast desert bloom. There is always something new to discover and explore. I am constantly inspired by the resilience, strength, and warmth of my brothers and sisters living in Israel.

Speaking of warmth, my friendships are an essential part of my life. I am so lucky to have incredible friends who make me laugh, support me, and celebrate life’s moments with me. They are truly a source of joy and comfort, and I am grateful for each and every one of them.

Lastly, israelseen.com has been a passion project of mine since 2005. Through my website, I am able to showcase the beauty, complexity, and diversity of Israel and its people. It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud of the work I have done to spread awareness and understanding about this special place in the world.
