Rami Dabbas – Interview with Arab Muslim Journalist about Islam and Science.

In an attempt to conduct a press interview with a religious Muslim about Islam and science, as he refused to do the interview with an Israeli newspaper for religious reasons. Therefore, we approached the Jordanian journalist Moder Al-Momani, who lives in Jerusalem, who works with the Jordanian radio and television.

Do you, as a Muslim, think that scientific progress in the world poses a threat to the Islamic religion, especially since many thinkers believe that Islam is incompatible with science? Do you think that science and the advancement of science and technology support the spread of Islam or support the spread of secularism among Muslims?

I do not believe that any scientific development or progress poses a threat to any component or religious community, provided it is used for the benefit of humanity and nature.

From the true Islamic perspective, in my opinion, Islam encourages science and development, and everyone who claims that scientific development and advancement pose a threat to Islam and the Islamic community, trust fully, sir, that this segment is far from true Islam and they are concealed under an Islam that aims at their personal interests or the interests of certain groups that live on their name Islam. On the contrary, scientific development and progress support Islam and the definition of true Islam with its basic concepts required of any Muslim, but what is branched out after that from beliefs that enter the stage of doubt about their validity and sanctity in religious terms, and I see this in any religion or belief.

Does the problem of the backwardness of Islamic countries and Islamic societies lie in Islam or Muslims? And who is the reason for distorting the image of Islam in the world? Does the problem lie in some texts of the Qur’an that encourage jihad, or in the wrong understanding of Islam?

It must be reminded again when answering such sensitive questions that, in the opinion of the religious group, need a scholar, mufti, or cleric, but we note here that the concept of true Islam is absent from many Muslims, in contrast to the concept of political Islam that was planted by the Arab and Islamic leaders in the hearts of many From Muslims.

Here lies the difference between a true Islam that is based on basic principles of peace, tolerance and decent morals in relations with other societies and other religions, and a political Islam that was found to serve regimes and leaders who have preserved their bases and centers in the name of Islam that is stored or implanted in the minds of modern Islamic societies.

This, of course, is due to Islam by distorting, isolating and moving away from accepting other societies and religions.

As for the Qur’an urging jihad, we must first understand the topic of jihad, what is meant by jihad, and why instill the concept of jihad to bear arms in the face of others Why is the understanding of jihad not in helping others, understanding and accepting others, and living with others. Here, let me ask a question that should be understood and comprehended for the benefit of the wrong understanding For Islam? Is it in the interest of the Muslims or the leaders ???

Of course, modern leaderships have contributed to distorting Islam and exploiting Muslims for personal interests that serve their steadfastness in their positions.

Does Islam need reform and redefining the religion, especially since there are fatwas that came in the Islamic clerics such as Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Baz legalizing the killing of apostates, stoning and cutting hands, especially since these actions are inconsistent with the 21st century and do Islamic societies need a secular revolution And as industrialized as the French Revolution in Europe after ages of darkness and ignorance?

Islam is a fixed, heavenly religion like the rest of the monotheistic religions. It does not need anything. But Muslims or followers of this divine religion are the ones who need to understand their religion for its reality and the truth of the main Islamic rules and distance from the distortions that the owners of agendas have introduced to this religion. I do not have the right as a journalist to mistake scholars like those who you mentioned in your question, or even to befriend them. One of the basics of religious belief is its compatibility with the human mind, not its compatibility with superstitions outside of the mind. Certainly, societies need revolutions, the first of which is cultural, then practical (industrial and commercial) without the need to be under the name of any belief, whether secular or religious.
