One Family Overcoming Terror Together

Hundreds of rockets hit southern Israel, forcing residents in the South and communities within a forty to fifty kilometer radius from the Gaza Strip, into bomb shelters and security rooms.

On Sunday, three Israelis were killed and dozens injured or treated for shock. 22 year old, Ziyad Al-Hamamda, succumbed to his wounds after the Ashkelon factory he worked in suffered a direct hit. A 60 year old man driving his car was killed outright after he was hit. Before dawn Sunday, 58 year old Moshe Agadi was killed when his Ashkelon home was hit by rockets.

For the first time since Operation Protective Edge, sirens were sounded in Arad. Schools were closed in kibbutzim and moshavim bordering the Gaza Strip as well as in Beersheba, Ashkelon and Ashdod. The number of cities under threat continued to grow – sirens sounded out in Netivot, Ofakim, Ashkelon, Ashdod, KiryatGat, Yavne and Rehovot. Residents depending where they live, have between 15 to 45 seconds to take cover.

Children playing soccer in Rehovot lay on the field covering their heads as sirens wailed. Parents in playgrounds hastily picked up their children and ran to take cover.  As sirens sounded, motorists driving on roads and highways hastily parked their cars and laid face down on the roadside.

The security establishment estimates the recent escalation will continue for another few days, noting that close to 600 rockets have been fired by terrorists since Saturday. The Ministry of Education is expected to add additional schools to the growing list that will be shut until the violence dies down..

The oncology ward in the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon was hit by shrapnel from an Iron Dome missile intercepting an incoming rocket. Luckily no one was injured. A kindergarten in Sderot was also hit.

Early Saturday morning terrorists began firing rockets at Israel and continued throughout Sunday.

The army hit more than 150 targets in the Gaza Strip have been hit in this latest round of unrest, adding it was prepared to continue airstrikes for as long as the rocket attacks continue.
