Israeli Health Startup Taps Into Behavioral Science – And Texting – To Help Combat Tuberculosis

Keheala, a Tel Aviv-based startup with offices in Nairobi, Kenya is on a mission to improve healthcare access and treatment outcomes for patients.

First founded in 2014, Keheala developed a “low-tech” solution to help motivate treatment adherence and get patients to take their medications on time, using basic phone features – like SMS or text – and behavioral science strategies for a platform based on USSD – unstructured supplementary service data.

Bye Bye, Trash: Israeli Startup Pilots Breakthrough Waste Conversion Solution In US

UBQ Materials developed an innovative, patented process to convert unsorted household waste — think chicken bones, dirty diapers, hamburger leftovers, and yogurt containers — into a sustainable, fully recyclable thermoplastic substitute.

The tech recently adapted in a pilot program by the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) which ordered the first 2,000 recycling bins made with UBQ Materials’ converted waste material.

Bloomberg Foundation, Peres Center, Interior Ministry To Launch Innovation Hubs In 12 New Cities Across Israel

Bloomberg Philanthropies is partnering with Israel’s Ministry of Interior and the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation to launch a national network of hubs for municipal innovation across Israel.

The network will be called Hazira (the arena or the scene, in Hebrew) and will tap into a unique Bloomberg Philanthropies program to set up innovation hubs in 12 new Israeli cities over the course of five years.
