Lee Diamond – What is a failed state?
A Lover of Tziyon
Is this an economic description?
Is it perhaps a sociological statement?
Or maybe it reflects a “state” in the process
of a civil war within itself?
Perhaps a failed state is one in
Which the elected hear not the
Voice of the people.
When the elected act in their own
Interests.
When power intoxicates the few
And the people lose all control
Of their direction, their dreams and indeed
Their very “state of being.”
When the State of the Jews
Is no longer The Jewish State.
When half a nation or any proportion of it, no longer feels enfranchised and indeed is not.
When promises and commitments are
Not respected
When a citizen has no power to be heard.
When the elected despise the values
Of the people.
When half a nation is cursed
And their values dismissed.
When those who disagree with the
negative and abusive use of power
Are threatened, marginalized or made
Invisible by a leadership which rules
Without the voice of the people.
I’m told that every nation gets the government
That it deserves.
Is this the case in Israel?
Do we truly deserve a government
Which defies and denies the voice
Of half of this nation?
Which speaks with two tongues
To the world and to
“US” the people
Of Israel.
If we allow the people in the inner circles
Of Power
To avoid us, and do not react
We Will Be the Cause
of our
Own Failed State .
