Lee Diamond – The Scourge of the Cell Phone
We see it yet we don’t react
We’re offended yet we allow it
We’re cut off yet we’re silent.
One fine Seder eve. Yet every day.
As we repeat, sing and discuss
Ancient words for our lives
As we attempt to
Pass on a tradition
They are elsewhere
In a distant world
With us physically
Yet Far from us in another
Uncharted world.
Escaped
Separate
Unaware
Uncaring
Traveling elsewhere
Self aware only
Uncommunicative
To our environment
Non responsive
Secretive
Even unintentionally
Rejecting reality
And opting out
Into a private world
Or a different world.
A singular world
Of their own.
And it’s every day
Every spare minute
Everywhere
A generation lost
To human communication
Overwhelmed by virtual
Reality
unfocused
Unhearing
Blind
Insensitive to
Others
And the other’s needs
Drugged
Incapable of kicking
The habit.
DAYENU.
We must reverse this process
Reverse this addiction
Use Cold turkey tactics
To Remove the scourge
For our children’s future
For their humanity
For their soul
And every cell of their being
And ours.
