The critique of Israel today
From all sides including from within
Is based upon the “settlements”
Or what is referred to as the “occupation”
Yet I recall that before
The settlements
And before the occupation
Of ‘67
The war raged
48’ 56’ Attrition’
I recall the Yom Kippur war
Fadein, busses blown up
Bombings
Knifings
Rockets
I remember a wall dividing
Jerusalem
And gunfire
Indeed I ask
When there were no settlements
When there was no occupation
Did we live in peace ?
Did our cousins love us
Were they at peace with us?
Or did they call for pushing
The Jews into the sea?
Settlements, if halted
Will lead to acceptance ?
Occupation if ended, will
Lead to acceptance?
Perhaps we need to end the occupation
Perhaps we need to end the settlements
But what if settlements and occupation really mean:
Jerusalem
Tel Aviv
Jaffa
Haifa
Beersheba
Eilat?
Perhaps occupation
Really Means Israel?
Unsettling to this leftist
