Lee Diamond – Fear of Zion
Diaspora demands loyalty
Loyalty to the host nation.
The host’s acceptance
Demands of the minority
To accede to its norms.
Not to be different
To live by its customs
It’s values
It’s education
It’s laws.
And so it should be!
Diaspora means compromise
Zionism is particular
Just as diaspora makes its demands
So too does Zionism
Zionism sets us apart
Our center
Our history
Our national symbols
Our language
Our holidays
And our holy time and place
The rhythm of our life
And so It should be
There is no American/Israeli
There is no Israeli/American
There is only an American
Or an Israeli
There is a diaspora
Which requires its demands
And there Is a State
Which requires its demands.
Zion threatens the comfort
Of the diaspora Jew
It’s hard to be different
But diaspora threatens the
Future of the Jews
