Rising in Rank – We Salute You
An emotional swearing-in of the first five graduates from our Rising in Rank program who are currently serving in Israel’s border patrol. The program operates in collaboration with Shalva, the IDF, and the Jerusalem College of Technology. 

 

 

Why is this Night Different?
As Israel’s lockdown prevented our adults with disabilities from going home to their families, they prepared and held their first Passover seder together in the Shalva apartments.

Kalman Samuels, founder and President of Shalva received the “Yakir Yerushalyim” Honorary Citizen of Jerusalem award in September for his 30 years of dedicated work benefitting thousands of children with disabilities and their families.

Music that Heals
The Shalva Band’s soloists joined leading Israeli singers to “Remember, Sing & Share” on Independence Day. The nation’s official ceremony was filmed by the Old City walls and broadcast on national TV. The Hebrew song is a tribute to Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror. May their memory be for a blessing. 
 

A Different Kind of Summer Fun in the Sun
Camp Shalva remained the highlight of the year for hundreds of children. Campers enjoyed days packed with sports, music, drama, and art activities, all within the parameters of Israel’s health regulations ensuring a fun, healthy, and safe summer. 
 

Back to School!
We began the new school year on September 1 with a new sense of appreciation and gratitude. 
 

The Show Went on…Virtually
The annual FestiShalva gives every child at Shalva the chance to shine. This year didn’t stop our children and staff from putting together an unforgettable theatrical experience. The event was broadcast virtually with hundreds of family members watching live.

The 20 care and education professionals who completed Shalva’s Snoezelen course take a quick photo op after receiving their official certification.

Empty Stadiums Full Hearts
The game must go on, and once again HaPoel Jerusalem Basketball dedicated their Hanukkah game to Shalva’s children. Dina opened the game with a beautiful rendition of Hatkva that was broadcasted to fans watching.

 

 

Love is What They Came to Give, Love is What They Found
Another beautiful couple who met at Shalva. Both Motti and Tohar work tirelessly with Shalva’s children and prove once again that when you give an abundance of love, it finds you in return. 
 

Color the World Purple
In recognition of International Disabilities Day, Jerusalem’s iconic chord’s bridge and other landmarks were aglow in Shalva’s color purple.
