IsraelSeen Exclusive – Saving Two Lives in Two Days
United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Nissim Hest has been very busy responding to emergency calls and saving lives in the city of Bnei Brak. When he is not at work or saving lives, he is at home with his wife and three children.
On Wednesday, a construction worker slipped and fell at an urban building zone. The man dropped 16 feet before impacting the concrete below. This incident is similar to the call depicted in the United HatzalahDay of Lifesaving video that recently aired for the first time.
Hest was at the office, when he received the urgent alert from United Hatzalah’s Dispatch and Command Center. The devoted volunteer immediately dashed outside to his ambucycle and hurried to the nearby location.
He found a man in his sixties, bleeding from multiple wounds, with significant trauma to his head and upper back. Additional United Hatzalah EMTs arrived on location to assist Hest with rescue efforts. The team applied trauma bandages, provided initial immobilization and completed a thorough assessment. When the ambulance eventually arrived, the driver was forced to park in the middle of a busy thoroughfare adjacent to the construction zone. Hest, hopped on his ambucycle and flipped on the lights and sirens, positioning the vehicle to block traffic and ensure the safety of the first responders who were carrying the injured man to the ambulance. Once aboard the ambulance, the victim was transferred to the nearest trauma center.
In another incident on Tuesday, a little girl in Bnei Brak swallowed a tiny bead from the decorations of her family’s Sukkah. As she began choking and gasping for air, her panicked parents dialed the emergency hotline for help. Riding his ambucycle, Hest arrived on scene within two minutes and treated the 12-month-old patient. The crew of a United Hatzalah ambulance joined Hest at the scene, and evacuated both the mother and daughter to the emergency room.
Hest’s rapid intervention helped save two lives in as many days.
