Yesterday I joined two dear friends, Averil and Rabbi Lee Diamond and our driver Sagi at Masada where Rav. Diamond presided over a Bat Mitzvah. It was a sunny cool day with many tourists and events taking place on the top of Masada. During the Bat Mitzvah ceremony and morning prayers Rav. Diamond reminded us all that this place isn’t just about tragedy and destruction. In fact this place is about Life and the Living. A home to many Jews that found and created a community in order to preserve the continuation of the Jewish people. The tragedy that befell them was the final effort to remain Jews and not to allow the Romans to take life away from the hands of the community. These Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s here on Masada continue to celebrate the continuity of the Jewish life.
