Israel Seen Exclusive Volunteer EMT Treats Injured at 2 Accidents and a Heart Attack on Erev Shabbat
Netanel Tiram, a United Hatzalah volunteer EMT and ambucycle driver from Ramle, was on his way home from work on Friday afternoon when he noticed a car stuck in the middle of the highway. In the car was a family that appeared frightened. Tiram pulled over and approached the car. After speaking to the driver he was told that the clutch had gone leaving the vehicle inoperable and the family in a very precarious situation. They couldn’t move their car and were afraid to exit as they didn’t want to be at risk of being struck by passing vehicles. Netanel quickly flipped on the lights and sirens of his ambucycle and positioning the vehicle in a way that blocked traffic and kept the family safe.
When police arrived on the scene, the resourceful United Hatzalah volunteer used a mechanical trick he learned to assist them in moving the “clutchless” car to safety. Just as the police were expressing their gratitude to Netanel,another alert came through the dedicated volunteer’s radio. A motor-vehicle accident had just occurred near his location. The police encouraged Tiram to speed on ahead of them on his ambucycle. They told Tiram that they would meet him there as soon as possible in their squad car.
Tiram raced to the scene, where he discovered a potentially fatal collision involving two vehicles. A driver lost control of his vehicle and struck another car, badly injuring a 40-year-old woman and her son.
Tiram found the mother unconscious. She had a faint pulse but showed no signs of breathing. Tiram carefully extricated the woman from the vehicle and positioned her upright to secure her airway and keep it clear. Tiram then provided high-flow oxygen until ambulance crews arrived on scene and evacuated the victims to the emergency room.
Though Tiram got home just minutes before the onset of Shabbat his evening was just beginning. Shortly afterward, he received an urgent alert that notified him about a person who suffered a heart attack on the next street over. The service of a volunteer EMT with United Hatzalah never stops.
