Israel Seen Exclusive – “Not Only Do We Deliver… We Deliver”

David Abell is a United Hatzalah volunteer EMT and an Oleh Chadash living in the Israeli coastal city of Ra’anana. Prior to making aliyah, David lived in Chicago and was very active and connected with the local Hatzolah organization in Chicago. After moving to Israel, David knew he wanted to continue volunteering, and took an EMT training course, and became a first responder.

Despite the great language barrier that most olim can have difficulties with, David overcame the challenge and joined yet a second course in order to become a member of the Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit which provides on-scene emotional stabilization to people suffering from severe stress reactions due to witnessing a medical emergency.

In addition to volunteering for both units, David is the owner and CEO of EasyStore Moving & Logistics. With his love for both volunteerism and assisting people, David always makes sure to transfer his medical kit from his car to his moving truck, so that it is with him at all times.

Recently, just as David was finishing a move in Beitar Illit, his communications device began to buzz. A woman next door had gone into labor in her home and needed immediate medical assistance. David’s clients helped him locate the apartment as he grabbed his medical kit from his truck and ran in.

Finding a woman almost fully delivered, David, together with additional medical personnel that had just arrived, assisted the woman in finishing her delivery. David also managed to calm the woman’s agitated mother. A few pushes and contractions later, a healthy baby boy was born.

After ensuring that the mother was properly cared for and on her way to the hospital, David stayed to help the rest of the family with the situation and utilized his PCRU training to reassure everyone that both mother and son were in good hands and receiving the medical care that they needed. When the apartment became more crowded, David made sure that everything was well in hand before returning back to his truck for the rest of the move.

“The move in Beitar Illit was supposed to take place the previous day, but due to bad weather, we pushed it off. This caused me to be at the right place at the right time, and be available and close to the woman in labor,” said David. “I truly think it was God’s hand that put me in that place at that time. Just as I was delivering a bunch of moving boxes, it turns out that I was needed in order to assist with another delivery, this time a healthy baby boy.”
