Israel: “A Purim Panto” Brings Fun, Laughter, Music and Heart for the Whole Family!
Innovative Theater Brings British Panto With a Jewish Twist to Israel
– In an exciting first for Israeli theater, the beloved British pantomime tradition takes center stage with A Purim Panto, a delightful fusion of classic panto humor and the timeless story of Purim. Produced by Center Stage Community Theater, this innovative production combines the hilarity, music, and audience participation of UK panto with the rich storytelling of the Purim story, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for theatergoers of all ages.
Written and directed by the pioneering Daniella Crankshaw, co-founder of Israel’s first professional English-speaking theater, A Purim Panto is more than a show – it’s a bold and heartwarming celebration of resilience, community, and joy. Crankshaw shared her inspiration for the production:
“Bringing British panto to Israel for the first time feels like a perfect fit. The idea of merging this vibrant, interactive theater tradition with the Purim story makes it truly unique. Purim is about a nation facing an existential threat, and through bravery, unity, and community, overcoming it. After our recent experiences as a nation, this message resonates deeply. This show is a joyful reminder of our strength and spirit.”
A Purim Panto boasts a cast of 13 actors, 6 dancers and 2 singers, and stars Shahak Brenner as King Achashverosh, Gavriella Silverstone Shieber as Esther, Dan Schoenfeld as Mordechai, and Ian Tick as Haman. Packed with dazzling performances, toe-tapping musical numbers, and laugh-out-loud comedy, the production is a must-see event this Purim season.
While rooted in Purim tradition, this production is far from a children’s show – it’s a celebration for the whole family, from the youngest revelers to seasoned theater lovers and is filled with humor, heart, and high-energy antics. Audiences will cheer for the brave Esther, boo the wicked Haman, and laugh along with Buttons, the Stepsisters, and other surprise characters in this unexpected Purim retelling.
