This current conflict, especially its political and military consequences reminds me too much of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Especially the political decision making in the months and years leading up to the “surprise”. Even more so in the War of the Jews to follow. One element which differentiates 2006 from 1973 I suspect will be that we will not have another long space between this conflict and the next. This will make critical the need for a swift and efficient process of change in the Common Wisdom of both the political and military elite. This will also demand of the “amcha” deep, penetrating and honest criticism. The Israeli journalist who says it best is, I believe, Ari Shavit. I invite you to read and considerer his thoughts and insights.
