Since the revision of the British Pet Travel Scheme in 2012, that brought Great Britain in line with the rest of Europe, the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind is sending the first-ever delegation to Great Britain for an informational and public relations visit with the Jewish Community of Great Britain. Prior to the revision of the regulations, guide dogs from outside Great Britain had to enter a six month quarantine period.
These new changes have allowed the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind to send a small delegation comprising of a blind Israeli guide dog user from northern Israel, Bracha Ben- Avraham, her companion guide dog Dinka, and an IGDCB staff professional on February 24 to raise awareness and understanding of blind and visually disabled people. Guide dogs remain the best way for blind and visually disabled people to integrate successfully into society.
The Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind was founded in 1991 by Noach Braun and his wife Orna. It remains the only organization in the Middle East recognized by the International Federation of Guide Dog Schools. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of blind and visually impaired Israelis, both Jewish and non-Jewish, including many veterans, by providing them with safe mobility, independence and self-confidence through the assistance of guide dog partners.
