Dov Lipman: Yad L’Olim Opens New Department for Ukrainian Arrivals to Israel
We had a busy month at Yad L’Olim as we launched a new department alongside our regular work. Thank you to all of you who supported the efforts to establish the Yad L’Olim Ukrainian Olim Department.
The following are some of the highlights from this past month:
OUR NEW UKRAINIAN OLIM DEPARTMENT
When the war in Ukraine broke out and thousands of Ukrainian refugees made Aliyah to Israel, many Ukrainian’s reached out to us for help.
We quickly launched a campaign to raise funds in order to make sure that these new Olim had their basic needs met and had the support they needed to navigate their new lives in Israel. We hired a team of veteran Ukrainian Olim who are assisting the new Olim with their first steps in Israel such as opening a bank account and meeting with the interior ministry, we set up an employment division to help the new Olim find work, and we are assisting them with their most basic needs including getting them food vouchers when necessary.
We launched a contact form in Ukrainian for the Olim to contact us. The form is being circulated on WhatsApp and social media.
AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT FOR OLIM AND GLOBAL JEWRY
After months of hard work, and in partnership with Knesset Member Yomtob Kalfon and other Knesset members, we are proud to announce that we succeeded in convincing the Knesset Speaker to restart the Aliyah & Diaspora Affairs Committee. This is an amazing achievement that will give us a platform to discuss and move forward with our legislative agenda related to Olim and issues affecting global Jewry.
A VOICE FOR UKRAINIAN OLIM IN THE KNESSET
After meeting with new Ukrainian Olim and hearing about there unique challenges, our government relations department made sure to raise these important issues to the Knesset’s subcommittee for Aliyah & Diaspora Affairs. We plan to continue advocating for these Olim and making sure that their voices are heard.
ASSISTING LONE BNOT SHERUT
We are grateful to these remarkable young women who left their home countries to come to Israel to do national service. A group of Bnot Sherut turned to Yad L’Olim for assistance regarding their conditions, and thanks to our meeting with the leadership of Israel’s National Service Authority, we were able resolve many of their challenges.
Thank you so much for being a part of our Yad L’Olim community! For those of you in Israel, if you would like to meet with our team to discuss your individual or communal challenges, please click here and fill out the form. We look forward to meeting you in your city!
Sincerely,
Dov Lipman
