David Lawrence-Young -Jerusalem is Fun
For centuries Jerusalem has been the center for pilgrimages. The Jews have come from far and wide to pray at the Western Wall; the Muslims have come from afar to pray at the El-Aksa Mosque, and the Christians have traveled many miles to pray at the Holy Sepulchre. Now today there is something new that will gladden the heart for everyone. Umbrellas. Large brightly colored umbrellas which hang over the central street of Yoel Salomon, a pedestrian precinct just off the Jaffa Road.
They are big, gaudy and add a jolly and festive atmosphere to our capital city, a feeling that is much needed during these problematic days. Unlike many symbols that you can see around the Holy City, religious and political, these umbrellas are just what they are: umbrellas, pure and simple. Come and see them and rejoice in the friendly atmosphere to which they are contributing.
Tip for photographers: Take care not to overexpose when shooting into the sky and bright sunlight. Make sure you set your camera setting for (slightly underexposed) if necessary.
