CityKids Nursery School
Space Available in our Spinoza and 3-4’s classes!
The CityKids Nursery Program engages children in a play-based, child-centered, emergent curriculum that integrates a combination of the foremost approaches to early childhood education including, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and Montessori.
Parents interested in our nursery school should make an appointment to learn more or schedule a tour.

Yearly memberships are available for families who anticipate using the CityKids space regularly.
Members have the following benefits:

- Ability to borrow books from the library, three books at a time for two weeks,

Level 1C – Phonics Foundations
Recommended: 5-6 years
This level develops children’s knowledge of phonics (sounds) as they learn more complex letter combinations (ch, sh, th) and sharpen their early reading and handwriting skills. They also begin to write read and write simple sentences. Learning is linked to stories and poems with fun opportunities for drama and oral response.

Level 3B – Creative Composers
Double Lesson | Recommended: 9-10 years
This double class offers children a focused approach to writing and introduces them to a range of writing techniques. Children work on extended pieces that include poems, stories, fact files, blogs and news reports. While reading and learning the features of these different text types, they also start to learn about literary techniques (similes, metaphors, complex sentences) and how to improve their writing with more sophisticated vocabulary and grammatical conventions. Fun opportunities for oral response and presentation are included throughout.

Level 2A – Fun with Phonics
Recommended: 5-6 years
With a focus on complex phonics blends (ea, ai, ay), children catapult their reading to a whole new level as they start to read and write simple sentences and learn basic punctuation. Learning is linked to a range of stories and poems with opportunities for drama games and oral response.

Level 1B – Letters & Sounds
Recommended: 4-5 years
With a focus on letter recognition and letter sounds, children will learn to identify and write both upper and lower case letters, print or copy their first name and begin blending sounds to read and write two to three letter words. Learning is linked to a range of stories, poems and songs.

Level 2B – Ready Readers
Recommended: 6-7 years
Advanced phonics and reading with fluency is key focus for our Ready Readers who learn how to tackle unknown words. Children start working on more extended pieces of writing such as stories and poems and focus on punctuation. Lessons include drama games, oral response and a whole lot of creativity.

Level 1A – Alphabet Fun
Recommended: 3-4 years
Come learn a letter a week through art projects, stories, songs and games. This course gives our youngest pupils a multi-sensory experience of learning the alphabet, an awareness of letter shapes and sounds and an opportunity to develop some basic classroom skills.

Level 3A – Budding Writers
Recommended: 8-9 years
Focused reading and writing instruction is fundamental for our Budding Writers. Skills cover reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary spelling and punctuation. Children produce independent pieces of creative writing and begin to learn how to use a dictionary to self-edit and improve their own work. Children are exposed to a range of literature including stories, poems and non-fiction text types and begin to learn about key features of such texts.
