Bernard Benny Berger – Rosh Pina in the Galil to Eilat by Plane
Rosh Pina, the regional airport of the Upper Galilee now will have a regular air link to Eilat, saving many hours of driving the entire length of Highway 90, the longest highway in Israel, which follows the rift valley all the way from the Lebanese Border at Metulla to the Egyptian border at Taba, this flight will save a drive of around 450 km, a good 5 and a quarter hours. It will provide an easy leisure getaway from the cities of Safed, Tiberias, Kiryat Shmoneh to the south. A welcome development.
The ceremony was chaired by Ayoob Kara, MK, Deputy Minister for Regional Cooperation and local representatives of the different religious and ethnic communities of the Upper Galilee.
This new domestic route is not all that is foreseen for this regional domestic airport.Plans are also afoot to turn it into a regional international airport, as a direct route to the Christian holy sites of the Galilee from Europe and also for leisure airlines to bring in secular tourists to enjoy all that this beautiful northern region has to offer.
Based on the economic impact of airports across the World, the transformation of this small airport into an international one can become the catalyst for the area to attract foreign direct investment too, as well as the employment generated by the hiring of more airport and airline staff and the increased foreign tourist spending.
