Amit Schwartz – Horseback Riding for Peace
The hope for peaceful coexistence between Jews and Arabs is alive.
“Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies” was the central theme of a group of horseback riders this Saturday. About 50 Jews, Arabs and Druze rode their horses together waving flags with the words “Shalom Alechem” in Hebrew and “Asalam Alaikum” in Arabic meaning Peace be with you.
The riders rode from Kfar Kara to Umm el Fahem. Along the way, people in passing vehicles provided cheers of support. The Israeli Police were on hand to stop traffic for the safety of the riders along the main route. The ride ended in Umm el Fahem with speeches by the organizers, a Jewish rider from Sarona and an Arab rider from Umm el Fahem.
Step by step, hoof by hoof, people riding together towards a peaceful coexistence, laying the foundation for a future based on equality and friendship.
