Members of National Science Team win two gold medals, three silvers at International Physics Olympiad in Lisbon; take home silver and bronze at International Chemistry Olympiad in Prague • Saudi student refuses to stand next to Israeli on medal podium.
Israeli students, members of the National Physics team, won two gold medals and three silvers at the 49th International Physics Olympiad held in Lisbon, Portugal.
The National Chemistry team, meanwhile, took home a silver and bronze medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
“The heart is filled with pride; these students are the most beautiful face of Israeli youth,” said Education Minister Naftali Bennett.
“We must continue investing and working to meet the greatest challenge facing Israel – realizing the potential of Israeli students,” said Education Ministry Director General Dr. Shimon Shoshani.
Meanwhile, the Saudi student who won the chemistry tournament refused to stand next to his Israeli counterpart on the medal podium, Iran’s Press TV reported, choosing instead to stand next to an Iranian flag-bearer.
