Lapid: I’m running for Prime Minister to work on Israeli future.
Lapid: I’m running for Prime Minister. Not for seats, not for jobs, but to get to work on the Israeli future.
Hundreds of Yesh Atid supporters gathered in Rishon Le’zion this week to welcome in the New Year and hear a major policy address from Yair Lapid during which he outlined the party’s vision for the future:
At the start of his speech, Lapid called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to invite the leaders of Israel’s political parties for a discussion on how to unify Israeli society, “I call on the Prime Minister to invite the ten leaders of the parties to a dinner for the New Year to have this discussion. We need a different Israeli dialogue. One of respect that will take us forward, not backwards. The Israeli people expect their political leadership not to speak like anonymous online commentators but to act like leaders.”
Lapid emphasized that if he is Prime Minister, Yesh Atid would pass legislation limiting the tenure of the Prime Minister to two terms and a bill preventing anyone convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude from serving in public office.
Yair Lapid then presented his vision and plan for Israel’s future.
“In order for Israel to get back on the path, moving forward, in order for us to be a Jewish and democratic state, to be more successful and powerful, in order for life to be better here five years from now, we need to work in seven areas simultaneously. Yesh Atid’s seven point plan has three points in the political-security sphere and four in the social arena, together creating a future of advancement and strength. The seven points are as follows:
1) Improvement of our security doctrine
2) Rehabilitation of our strategic alliances (particularly with the United States)
3) Embarking on a regional initiative vis–à–vis the Palestinians
4) Cleaning up the political system
5) Strengthening and rebuilding the law enforcement system
6) Economic growth
7) Massive investment in science and education
Behind each of these points is a detailed plan that will work if and when Yesh Atid is elected to lead the State of Israel.”
“Israel today is an organization that isn’t managed. The government doesn’t manage it. Those practicing the “old politics” don’t want to manage it, they are too interested in preserving their jobs and playing political games. It’s time we stand up to this problem without hesitation. We, in Yesh Atid, are here because we are ready and able to lead and manage the country, so that Israel will have the future we want.
The future is not something you wait for, it’s something you make happen. For that we need to mobilize everyone who can help and remove the obstacles in the way. For that, we need to become the ruling party and that is the reason I’m running for Prime Minister. Not for seats, not for jobs, but to get to work on the Israeli future.”
