Lee Diamond – Dear Uncle Toms
I know that you were born of at least one Jewish parent.
I know that you were probably raised and educated as a Jew
.
You probably had a Bar/ Bat mitzvah
Maybe you attended synagogue at some point in your life.
Perhaps you even visited Israel.
Maybe you see yourself as a Jew.
But you have come very near to the sensitive line between being one of us or casting your lot with the enemy.
Yes the enemy!
You are very close to removing yourself from the Jewish consensus and Jewish people! You are spouting the words of those who blaspheme Israel– the nation, the people, the land , the culture and the values.
Being a Jew requires loyalty to 3 basic values: the People of Israel; the Torah and God of Israel and the Land of Israel. Interpret as you wish, but these are the primary values of The Jews.
This formula is a Holy one since the first Jew — Abraham! It is the covenant that we have entered into ever since.
We are a choosing people! We have chosen this basic covenant from time immemorial!
We can choose to opt out! We can choose not to choose!
We can criticize our choice!
But we do not have the right to deny our very essence and remain in the fold
You are welcome to criticize but you can not be an Uncle Tom and still remain in the fold.
There is a point that will disallow you to from being part of our framework, our minyan and our law of return and protection. If you deny our right to exist,; if you demand
the rights of our enemies, you may become one of them.
Choose your narrative and select your loyalty .
But be brave enough to define yourself honestly.
