Lee Diamond – Je Accuse – It Never Ends
A day doesn’t pass
In which I don’t follow the tragedy of terrorist
attacks in Paris, the south of France, Brussels Lebanon, Syria and Mali.
But I not at all alone. Israelis are deeply concerned and indeed identify with the fear and loss of life that fundamental Islam is imposing on our world.
In Hebrew we comfort mourners with the words. “I share in your grief.”
Indeed we do share the pain and grief of those who mourn and fear in this current wave of destructive fundamentalism and terror.
All of the international press covers these tragedies in depth.
And yet
And yet
Silence when Jews in Israel are being slaughtered daily by knife wielding, rock throwing and hatred mongering radical fundamentalist Terrorists in Israel!
At best we might hear from the international press that a poor Palestinian was shot by an Israeli soldier!!!
Hardly a mention of the person that the “poor” Palestinian tried to kill or in fact killed.
And these fundamentalists kill daily!
But no mention of the Jew, the Israeli child who was intentionally run over by a terrorist driven car.
Yes, Why?
Is it because of settlements?
Is it because of the Israel / Palestinian conflict?
Is it because the killing of Israelis isn’t newsworthy? Or sexy enough?
Is it because something has changed in the status of El Aksa?
On The Temple Mount?
No!!
A resounding NO to all of the above questions!
Israel has, without doubt, much to do in order to improve itself . Yes, we are still building our democracy. We’re still imperfect!!!
BUT
We can not prevent the ugly face of Anti Semitism.
Or Jew Hatred!
As the word deals with Islamic fundamentalism
Israel continues to deal with this phenomenon daily
When France and Russia and the USA bomb ISIS safe places,
The world applauds
When an Israeli soldier or civilian defends his/herself
We are accused of inappropriate force
When bombs rain upon us from Gaza
And we protect ourselves with an iron dome
We are accused of disproportional war.
Or not noticed in the world we belong to.
Am I an Israeli right winger supporting my country , right or wrong
No
I am “Left” Out.
Why?because I am a Jew
A LEFT OUT JEW
So pleased to have Rav. Diamond share his thoughts at Israel Seen.
Rabbi Lee Diamond, is based in Israel and began his unique rabbinate as an Israel Educator for the Diaspora. Rabbi Diamond has served as director of the Alexander Muss High School in Israel, and Associate Director of the Israel office of the UJR and NFTY Israel programs. He has dedicated his life to sharing the Israel he loves and creating an educational experiences for everyone visiting Israel. Rabbi Diamond’s philosophy: Israel is the stage on which I want to act out the drama of the Jewish people, its creative survival, and to affect people’s lives. When we see each other our discussion always seems to find its way to the ever changing political situation in Israel. In the end of course we come around to what is dear to the hearts of both of us: the importance of emphasizing Jewish values and ethics in our society.
