Shlomo Carlebach’s Reaction to the Holocaust

I had the blessing  of knowing Shlomo.  While I was involved with a guru at the time,  Shlomo  patiently suggested I go live either in his “House of Love and Prayer” in San Francisco or at his Moshav at Modiin in Israel.

I first met him at a gathering in  Boston. It was in Boston that he invited me to a  synagogue, I forgot the name of it, to participate in an event that he was holding. He had just finished singing a song of prayer when  he called us up to the Bima, opened the ark and told us to take out all of the Torahs. As we did this, to the horror of the  older crowd, we danced through out the sanctuary as the spirit descended on us all.

The pull of his love for everything Jewish and of Torah affected me greatly. Eventually we made Aliyah  to Israel and raised three beautiful children.  He has touched me deeply in his love for all humanity and his love of life. I miss him dearly.
