Lee Diamond – Loss Of Our Essence

While we debate Kashrut supervisors

While we struggle for rights at the Kotel

While we inspect every letter

Of our mezuzot

While we inspect the legitimacy

Of Former Russian  Jews to marry in Israel

While we legislate the opening

Of some stores on Shabbat

In some cities

While we inspect the “eruv” of our cities

****The very enterprise is on fire

        And in danger ***

We the people of the Book

Have forgotten the Book itself

WE WERE SlAVES IN EGYPT

This is our essence

We declare these words

And disregard them

Our essence is determined

By small minded fundamentalists

And political hacks

Who declare;  who ignore

And indeed Impair

God’s word to us

And our covenant

With Him

Love the “Ger”

For you Jews

We’re “Gerim”

In Egypt

JEWS CAN NOT DEPORT

JEWS CAN NOT DEPORT

THE STRANGER

From our midst

We must disobey

Our government

We must hide the stranger

in our homes

In our attics

In our basements

We must  Block the

Planes

Standing or lying

Arms locked

On the runways

And in the Jails

We are the strangers

And will always be

Yes it’s “Strange” to be a Jew

No compromise with those

Who examine the tip of a lulav

And deport and jail the needy stranger!

“Be Strong

And of good

CourAge”

“For the place we are standing upon

               Is Holy.”
