This interview with Yasmine is on the heels of her new CD release.
Yasmine Ariel comes from a musical family, born in the United States to an Israeli mother and an American father. Her mother, known as T’shura was a powerful singer that had an international career spanning 20 years with a special talent for languages and a repertoire that included a love for traditional music as well as contemporary and original material. Yasmine spent the first half of her childhood traveling with her mother’s gypsy career, and discovered very early on that she too was a singer. She developed her musical abilities with classical vocal training, performances and musical theater. When she was 17 years old she moved to Israel, worked with a variety of musicians and studied at the Rimon Music School for a short time. At age 20 she returned to the United States, helped found the band Yantra, and recorded an album in which she was the lead singer and co-composer. In 2006 she returned to Israel, teamed up with musician/guitarist Rami Halperin, and began writing and performing new original material. In 2007 Yasmine and Rami were married and later that year they began working with musician/producer Nir Danan on her up-coming album “One First Time” and formed a live band. Yasmine’s eclectic musical background is very much reflected in the variety of styles incorporated into her own original material, which combines traditional Middle Eastern, American, and European folk elements, old-time jazz and Bossa nova, as well as electronic and contemporary grooves. Her lyrics, at times introspective, at time flirtatious and always honest are perfectly expressed by the warmth of her dynamic and sensitive voice.
