Over 250 students attended the opening of the 8th year of the StandWithUs Ambassadors Club at the IDC Herzliya’s Raphael Recanati International School (RRIS). The opening event, with a keynote address from Ambassador Michael Oren, until recently Israel’s Ambassador the United States, was held in the largest auditorium on campus. The speech was broadcast live online giving people from around the world the opportunity to join in this event and to ask the Ambassador questions via the live chat.
“We were thrilled to welcome Ambassador Oren as our keynote speaker, someone who was lauded in his role as Ambassador and liaison to our most important ally. Ambassador Oren is an amazing example to the students — all keen to pursue their own, public diplomacy for Israel,” said StandWithUs Israel Director, Michael Dickson.
Ambassador Oren gave one of his first lectures since completing his post as Israeli Ambassador to the United States. He discussed the importance of speaking up and telling Israel’s story around the world in an educated and effective way. Oren spoke about the experiences and challenges he faced as Ambassador to the United States, providing the students with a better understanding of what they may face as the future leaders and ‘ambassadors’ for Israel.
This marks the 8th year of the successsful ‘Ambassadors Club’ program which has become the go-to program at the IDC Herzliya for Israeli public diplomacy, educating students who want to represent Israel to the best of their abilities around the world. Previous speakers included Alan Dershowitz, Natan Sharansky, Mark Regev among many other top politicians, diplomats, educators and media personalities.
Students who complete the ‘Ambassadors Club’ — an extra curricular course – receive accreditation from IDC Herzliya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and StandWithUs. Students hail from over 80 countries.
“The Ambassadors Club” forms part of StandWithUs’s outreach to many thousands of students annually who come from the US, Europe and all over the world to spend time in Israel. While they are on gap programs at yeshivot and seminaries, volunteering or studying at prestigious universities, StandWithUs runs programming to ensure they use their time as a springboard to educate others when they return home.
