Eco-Dome for Noa’s work, Birth of the Phoenix Photos by Deborah Friedes

Have you ever gone to a dance concert and traded clothes at a
“hand-to-hand market” in the theater lobby?  Watched dancers slide
across dirt and hurl themselves through space under a geodesic dome?
Stumbled across an artist colony and dance studio in the midst of a
kibbutz?

These aren’t typical experiences, but then again, Vertigo Dance
Company isn’t your average dance group.  I met Noa Wertheim and Adi
Sha’al, the directors of Vertigo, several times over the course of
this year, and I became increasingly intrigued by their
environmentally-friendly and community-oriented approach to dance.  A
few visits to their Eco-Art Village at Kibbutz Netiv HaLamed-Hey
further piqued my interest, and Noa satisfied my curiosity in a lively
discussion which I’m happy to share with you.  Join us as we talk
about Noa’s pathway into dance, her “eco-dance” The Birth of the
Phoenix
, the creation of the Eco-Art Village, her relationship to
Israeli society, and tikkun olam.

Terrific energy! Expressed so vigorously in the interview…the passion for dance, for connecting to the earth, for connecting to and caring for others. Beautiful!
